During a recent visit to Legacy Woods by the Forestry Commission, an area of Japanese knotweed was identified within the woodland.
Japanese knotweed is an invasive non-native plant which can spread rapidly if it is not appropriately managed. Following its identification, we have appointed a specialist contractor to treat the affected area and manage its eradication.
Unfortunately, Japanese knotweed cannot normally be eliminated with a single treatment. The contractor will therefore undertake a programme of treatment and monitoring which is expected to take up to three years to complete.
Visitors may notice activity around the affected area while this work is taking place. We would ask everyone to avoid disturbing or removing any of the plants, as even small fragments can contribute to its spread.
We will continue to monitor the area closely and will provide further updates as the treatment programme progresses.
